It all started at the end of the 1970s. Ewald König, the later founder of KOENIG, worked for one of the most renowned jewellers in the world. The dedicated businessman has a close relationship with the industry and brings with him extremely good taste. This is quickly recognized in Paris and he is offered a leading position. He more than lived up to the high expectations and, during the following years, ensured a fundamental reorientation of this luxury brand.

During this successful time, however, Ewald König also recognizes that the future holds something different for him. He is looking for the special and the extraordinary and wants to be able to respond to the individual wishes and needs of customers. But it is precisely this individuality that the large companies can no longer accommodate as they did in the past.

When a centrally located boutique became available in the Engadine spa town in 1985, he seized the opportunity and founded König Design AG.

He opens the KOENIG watch and jewellery store at Via Maistra 15, in the center of St. Moritz. As an exclusive representative of various watch and jewellery brands in the luxury segment, the house was already considered the best address on the square.

As customers increasingly expressed the desire for individual Haute Joaillerie pieces, the company began to collaborate with Swiss goldsmiths' studios for the production of its own jewellery creations at the beginning of the 1990s.

Another milestone in the company's history occurred in 1995, when Ewald König's then 24-year-old son, Roger König, joined the family business after completing his apprenticeship as a goldsmith.

Through his father, Junior came into contact with the world of jewellery at an early age. The passion for jewellery design and the affinity for exclusive haute joaillerie jewels was practically laid in his cradle.

Now the house is the only company on site with its own atelier. At this time, however, the jewellery creations designed jointly by father and son still have to be made in part by external Swiss ateliers.

But the desire to produce all the creations themselves is growing. Ewald and Roger König have specific ideas about aesthetics and craftsmanship. That's why they often encounter a lack of understanding from external partners when implementing their ideas.

At the end of the 1990s, father and son founded the in-house workshop in Celerina together. In order to expand their independence in the creative field, they wanted to produce all jewellery creations exclusively in their own factory from then on. As a jeweler from the very beginning, it was always important to the family to be able to offer customers exclusivity.

The establishment of this atelier was the cornerstone of the König's success. Since then, the house employs several of its own goldsmiths and
gemstone setters.

Roger König learned the goldsmith's trade in Düsseldorf before joining the family business in St.Moritz in 1995. Today he is the creative head of the company and manages it successfully.

Through his father Ewald König, the founder, he comes into contact with the world of jewellery design at an early age. Already at the age of eighteen, he travels alone around the world and collects many impressions in all areas, starting from different design influences to the most diverse manufacturing techniques.

In the meantime, Roger's wife Jessica, as well as his daughter Renée are also on board.
The ladies of the house primarily take care of the selection of the dreamlike gemstones and the consultation of our valued clientele.
