In 1953 Rolex presented it's famous Submariner. The characteristics of the first reference 6200 were - easy to use and easy to read the time. The main target was to manufacture a timepiece which
should serve divers under water, simply a truly functional tool; and this goal had been achieved. Of course this model went through a steady evolution and changed continuously. As early
models for example do not have the later added crown guards to protect the winding crown against shocks or damages, also the cases became more solid over the years. The same applied to the
movements. Only one thing has never been considered until 1966; to equip a Submariner with a date display. Reference 1680 is therefore the first of it's kind.
